Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to the Year 6 class page.
As Year 6 is the final year of primary school, the children are given many responsibilities; the first being to look after their Reception buddy. Every Year 6 pupil writes a welcoming letter to their buddy about themselves and life at Guilden Sutton C of E Primary School. At the start of the school year, the pupils in Year 6 accompany their buddy at lunch and break times. As part of our reading for pleasure, the children get together with their buddy to share and read books together when we can.
Other responsibilities include leading our weekly 'Time to be still' collective worship, annual Health Week, playleaders, the Remembrance Service, organising a Children in Need and either Sports or Comic Relief Charity events as well as being exceptional role models for the rest of the school.
Year 6 will go on different trips during the year: visit a war museum, a trip to Hookswood and finally...a residential visit to Min-y-don Christian Centre. The children will also have the opportunity to take part in the Bikeability programme.
Here you can find the Year 6 Curriculum Map and Knowledge Organisers for the topics that we cover throughout Year 6.
Homework, that consisits of one Maths and English piece each week, will be given out on a Friday to be returned by Thursday.
PE takes place every week on a Tuesday, as well as swimming during the first half of the Autumn Term, gymnastics on Thursday in the second half of the Autumn Term and dance on a Friday in the Spring Term - please wear school PE kits on these days.
Each week, the children participate in a French lesson. To practise their skills, they can access the website 'Linguafun.eu' at home.
The children need to bring in their reading books and logs, as well as planners each day, along with their water bottles.
Please make sure you read with your child every week and sign their reading logs.
