‘And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ Micah 6:8. Through the teachings of Jesus all can flourish spiritually, emotionally and academically throughout life, living out love and justice for all.
Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to Guilden Sutton Church of England Primary School.
As the Headteacher of Guilden Sutton Church of England Primary School, I am delighted to take this opportunity to welcome you to our inclusive school family, which is made up of different cultures, faiths and those of none. Although we are situated in the heart of Guilden Sutton village, on the outskirts of Chester, many of our families travel from the surrounding area to be part of our happy, lively school where all are treated as individuals. We are proud of our Christian family atmosphere where all can flourish spiritually, emotionally and academically: living out ‘Love and Justice for all,’ the school’s motto.
I have had the privilege of working here since 2007 as teacher, Specialist Educational Needs and/or Disability Coordinator and Deputy Headteacher; it is wonderful to work with such dedicated, enthusiastic and caring staff who work extremely hard and go above and beyond in all that they do, whilst promoting lots of fun along the way! This in turn makes for a stimulating and happy environment for all our children.
At Guilden Sutton, our Christian ethos is underpinned by our Christian values: love, justice, compassion, wisdom, forgiveness and friendship. We encourage our children to be well-rounded, resilient and hard-working young people, ensuring that they succeed and meet their full potential – regardless of any barriers they might have to their learning.
I am very proud to say that the school continues to go from strength to strength, constantly seeking ways to be forward-thinking, inspirational and ambitious through the outstanding work of the school team of staff, governors and the crucial partnership with our families. Our whole school community thrives as a result of mutual respect and communication: everyone’s opinion matters and is valued. We have the highest aspirations for each one of our children, therefore all staff model being friendly, courteous, creative, curious, resilient and with a ‘have a go!’ philosophy. As Albert Einstein said: ‘A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new!’
Our vision is cemented by our carefully planned, broad and balanced curriculum that is based on the teachings of Jesus. It is rich with opportunities, culture, diversity and excitement that engages all learners and encourages them to think ‘outside the box!’ – there should be no ceiling to a child’s learning. By creating a safe and secure teaching and learning environment, our children will be able to be the best possible version of themselves, creating lasting memories of their time at primary school and with a love for learning that will be taken with them on the next stage of their journey through life.
We have strong links with St. John the Baptist Church in Guilden Sutton and Reverend Heather Carty is a weekly visitor who leads Collective Worship for the whole school – inviting parents, grandparents and younger siblings to attend. Throughout the school year, we come together to celebrate different religious festivals, and all have the opportunity to worship, celebrate individual and whole school achievements, pray, reflect and be still during a busy school day. This is essential for nurturing everyone’s mental health and well-being in this fast-paced world that we now live in.
Our website, Facebook page and regular newsletters provide a snapshot into the daily life of our school. Please feel free to contact school to arrange a visit so you can find out first-hand what it is like to be part of our Guilden Sutton school family.
Best wishes,
Theresa Rainford
